Hodgkins Disease:  Lymphocyte Depleted

Description This variant has the worst prognosis of the Hodgkins lymphomas.  It  presents with abdominal lymphadenopathy, and may involve the spleen, liver and marrow.  Peripheral lymphadenopathy is rare.  Two subdivisions are recognized: diffuse (fibrotic) with extensive connective tissue and Reed Sternberg cells and a reticular type, which is also known as Hodgkins lymphoma and is similar if not identical to anaplastic large cell lymphoma (Ki-1 lymphoma).
Frequency This is the least common HD variant and is sometimes seen in older, HIV+ patients.
