REAL Classification System
Several classification systems for non-Hodgkins lymphoma have been employed,
such as the Working Classification for Clinical Usage and the Revised European
American Classification System (REAL). The Working classification
system divides NHLs by cell size and grade. The newer REAL system
attempts to define NHLs according to biology, dividing lymphomas by their
cell line of origin (B or T) and their degree of maturity (either immature=precursor
or mature=peripheral) and then according to cell surface markers, and cytogenetics.
